The Democracy Dialogues initiative seeks to provide a forum for youth to explore and engage with some of the challenges facing the Indian democratic experience.
In 2012, The Tehelka Foundation intends to organize the Democracy Dialogues in the following cities:
Srinagar, Aligarh and Benaras, Shillong, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur.
This initiative proposes to -
- Promote a culture of reasoning: by reviving the art of debate in universities. Rooted in the concerns of the community, this debate will be conducted in the local language and serve to facilitate meaningful conversations on issues relevant to the democratic process in those cities and states.
- Document the local democratic experience: through the use of multimedia (photography, film), art (theatre, graphic art) and text. This documentation will be conducted by youth who will be supported by a three month Fellowship.
- Support exchange of ideas and experiences across these spaces: through a dissemination strategy that creates awareness about the issues discussed through these debates and connect youth voices across India. Join us in developing and implementing this program!
